Project Overview

This spring, NDOT in partnership with the City of Reno and Granite Construction will begin two safety improvement projects.

The first is on Second Street from Keystone Avenue to Kietzke Lane and at the intersection of Arlington Avenue and Island Avenue in Reno. The second project is on Kietzke Lane from Mill Street to Galletti Way. Construction will begin in March and complete in summer 2019. Construction is weather permitting.

Drivers and pedestrians will see single lane closures, minor detours, parking restrictions and sidewalk closures. Construction will occur simultaneously on both projects.

Traffic Control

Kietzke Lane

Improvements on NDOT’s Kietzke Lane Safety Project include removing and replacing the top layer of roadway resulting in a smoother driving surface. These operations will begin on Sunday evening, June 16 at 7 pm.  Crews will remove approximately one inch of pavement on Kietzke Lane.  Drivers will be driving on a milled surface until Saturday, June 29 when crews pave the roadway.  One lane in each direction of Kietzke Lane will be maintained during construction, but drivers can expect minor delays and lane shifts.  Business access will be maintained.

Second Street

Beginning early July 2019 Second Street at Kietzke Lane will be closed 24-hours a day, seven days a week for approximately 10 days for the construction of a new roundabout at Second Street and Giroux Street.   A compact traffic roundabout will be installed at the intersection for easier and safer vehicle and pedestrian traffic flow. The closure is needed for the safety of workers and the public.
